Back to Metric Martyrs

THE COUNCIL WITH
STONES
AT HEART

The Old Sunderland Quay fish depot is now owned by none other than the City of Sunderland.

On October 20th a representative of Herron Seafoods bought fresh supplies there (in the usual way) for sale at their market stalls, including a quantity of prawns, and received the following receipt:-

City of Sunderland

City Treasurer's Office
20th October 2000

To:

3 stones of Sea Prawns  ...........  £12.00

Received from Herron Seafoods.
Receipt No: 244219

------------------------------------

Here is a classic example of double standards being applied by the very same City of Sunderland which is prosecuting Steve Thoburn for not complying with "compulsory" metrication.
No doubt the receipt SHOULD have read: 19.0512Kg of prawns, but it didn't!

It begs the question why is Sunderland wasting so much of its ratepayers' money on this ridiculous case when it should be prosecuting itself.
